| Real Life Retirement: what real people are doing after age 55 |
|
Now is the time for retirees to have more fun! Does any retiree play shuffleboard any more? Or sit in a lawn chair and watch the world go by? Not when there are so many other interesting and fun and challenging things to do when you have retired from your primary career. You can view all our suggestions starting with number one by clicking here.
11. Win With Words. One common image of seniors is of men quietly playing chess in the park day after day. And there is no question, but that chess is a good mental challenge, the kind we all need daily. But how about revving up your competitive mental juices by joining a Scrabble club and entering Scrabble tournaments. Check out the National Scrabble Association for all the details including contests held in great tourist destinations and cruises. Who knows, maybe you will win enough to pay for that vacation! 12. Read To Children. Your neighborhood school would love to have you volunteer to read to children either in the classroom or the school's library on a weekly basis. Your public library may also have a program for reading stories to young children. By helping children learn the joy of reading you will make an important difference in their lives--a difference that will last from generation to generation.
