| Real Life Retirement: what real people are doing after age 55 |
Travel Now, Travel Often One of the saddest things people say when they are looking forward to retirement is: "When I retire I'm going to travel." Do not wait until you retire to travel--or do anything else, for that matter. Who knows what tomorrow may bring. It is far better and easier to travel when you are in your fifties, than when you are in your sixties or seventies. After decades of being a solo traveler around the world, that big Six-Oh birthday arrived and I finally decided to travel with a group and have now taken two Elderhostel (now called Road Scholars) vacations.
Then there is leaf-watching in New England in fall and bird watching in the Carolinas and cycling in Tuscany. You will be amazed! Their costs are reasonable. Not cheap, but reasonable. There are, of course, other companies who focus on travel for people over age 50. Whatever your choice, do not wait. Travel now! This year. Road Scholars hires people to work on their educational tours. But they are inundated with applicants. We have some other ideas for you, if you are interested in jobs related to travel.
